March 11, 2014
At this time, Ohio's General Assembly has not passed any legislation to extend the number of calamity days allotted to school districts. However, the Ohio Department of Education has given school districts the option of creating online assignments for students to make up for snow/calamity days in excess of 5 days. In an attempt to maximize the current learning and be mindful of families’ summer vacations, we will utilize this alternate path for instruction if we have more calamity days.
In grades K-5, assignments are posted on our website (www.kirtlandschools.org) under a link referred to as Blizzard Bag. In grades 6-12, teachers will post assignments via Progress Book by 9:00 AM of the calamity day. Students in grades 6-12 will need to log-in as usual to Progress Book and check the Homework link. Ideally students will complete this work as soon as possible, but if your child is not able to access the assignments, they will be afforded additional time to complete them.
If you have any questions about Blizzard Bags, please contact your child’s Principal (see contacts below).
